Hurry if you must.

If your feet just want to race

if your mind can’t slow the pace

if you can’t catch a breath without a chase

then hurry if you must.

But if you feel your duvet call

if you only feel safe in these four walls

if you have no strength at all

don’t hurry, just stay put.

Sparkle if you must.

You’re a diamond after all

a girl like you belongs at the ball

you can be proud without a fall

so sparkle if you must.

Turn yourself towards the light

be that star on a stormy night

ignore Virginia Woolf, shine bright

sparkle if you must.

But if today your heart is full

if today your shine is dull

if just now your words don’t rhyme

if you’ve too much on your mind

give yourself a break - be kind.

Build yourself a blanket nest,

stay at home and have a rest

you won’t be left upon the shelf

you only need to be yourself.

Let the others shine and chase

you are enough, it’s not a race.
